Long Day at the Office for Depleted Nomads

A depleted Nomads side due to the uni holidays suffered a resounding defeat against the Inverell Saints on Saturday. Despite resistance by David ‘Modra” Richards, Wulu Hall Steve Ogilvie, Luke Raymond and Frosty, the Nomads were no match for the Saints and suffered a 163 pointe defeat. It was nonetheless a brave effort for a team that ended with only 13 on the field in the last quarter. Final scores were Inverell 31.15.201 to 5.8.38.

The Nomads began the day with a big disappointment; the transfer for former coach and stalwart Zac Economou, who was in town, did not come through in time. This was unfortunate as the boys were looking forward to seeing Big Zac in the colours again. The numbers were bolstered by the inclusion of four of the juniors in the guise Morgan Dunn, Brayden Bloomfield, Ryan Swan and Daniel ‘Sticky’ Boyd. The NOomads started with 18, playing 17 and one on the bench

The first quarter did not start well with the Saints jumping out fo the blocks and scoring early goals. The backs were in for a long day. Modra was hesviuly tagged inteh midfield but still getting a lot of ball. The first quarter saw the Saints kick 9.5.59 to the Nomads 1.0.6. The one goal scorer being junior Daniel who out-marked the Saints captain and kicked truly.

The second quarter saw the Nomads gain a bit more composure and slow down the Saints scoring. Wulu Hall was running around and creating opportunities for the forwards. By the end of this quarter scores were 14.10.94 to 3.4.22.

Just after the half-time break an Inverell player hit the ground hard and was unconscious for a while and play was delayed for quite a considerable period of time. When the play resumed the Saints held the initiative and ran the ball hard. They kicked 8 goals for the quarter. The scores at the final change were 22/12.144 to 4.6.30.

The final quarter saw the Saints run over the Nomads completely – although there task was made easier by the fact that for much of the quarter the Nomads werde down to 1r4 players so there was a lot of empty space and free players for the Saints to pass to. A couple of times Frosty ran the ball out of the middle only to find there was no one to kick to. It was a hard day at the office and probably one we should all forget about. Bring on the return of the rest of the team!
