Nomads finally put it together to skin Cats
By Ruby Roberts (Armidale Express, 22/06/2009)
Nomads coach Brendan Meehan cited an improvement in teamwork as the main reason behind their much-needed 100-point win against the Muswellbrook Cats on Saturday.
The Nomads travelled to Muswellbrook for a seventh round game in the Country Energy Tamworth Australian Football League (TAFL).
They have had a slow start to the season, and have faced an onslaught of defeats since registering two wins in the early stages.
Meehan hopes this emphatic victory will mark the beginning of improved teamwork and a winning run.
“It was a good win, especially after a long road trip,” he said.
“The game started slowly, because we found it difficult to get any open play, but by the second half Muswellbrook were flagging, and we were able to get more open play in.
“In the first half we scored six goals and 16 behinds, but in the second half we scored 15 goals and three points, so things definitely picked up as the game went on.
“I think we used the ball really well, especially in the second half.”
The Nomads led throughout in what Meehan said was a team effort.
“We worked well together,” he said.
“It’s hard to pick a stand-out player, but Will Hamilton, Matthew Maxwell, Kenneth Clayton and Adam Wright gave their all and did us proud,” he said.
Meehan hopes that the team will continue this good run at Bellevue next week, when they play the Inverell Saints.
He is hoping that player numbers will also improve as the team have had to contend with frequent absences from players due to other commitments.
“I think we’re improving as a team, and hopefully that will show in future games,” he said.

Nomads,
Great to read that we are in the winning circle again. While we expected to win it is pleasing to read that our teamwork has improved. Train hard boys and lets have another win next saturday.
All the Best,
Brendo

While Meehan likes to quote “improved teamwork” as the reason for the win, I attribute it to my mere presence inspiring the Nomads to extract the digit and play footy. While I can’t commit myself to too many more appearances that will inspire the Nomads to greater heights in the CETAFL, I will guarantee “I’ll see you around”!
