Round 3: Nomads post first win in nearly two years
On the 17th of May the Nomads men won their first game in nearly two years against the Gunnedah Bulldogs at Wolseley Oval in Gunnedah. The final scores were Nomads 11.15.81 to the Bulldogs 7.8.51. The Nomads lead for the whole game but it was the first half where they all the damage. Jimmy Walters kicked 4, Hunter Greene, 3 and there was one apiece to Nick Exton, Aidan Barry, Oskar Brookshaw, and Reilly Widdup. Best players were Charlie Keiller, Hunter Greene, Gus Russell, Cotter Litchfield, Aidan Barry, Wulu Hall.
In the women’s game the Nomads lacked the numbers of play a game for points. And so the official score was 130 points to 0 by forfeit. However, a game was played. 6 Nomads women were there and played some very good football alongside a number of the Gunnedah women who were happy to throw the boots on. For those who played it was a good game of football and an excellent experience.
In the mens’s game we were lucky to have the Robb College crew including Charlie Keiller in the middle, Gus Russell in the ruck and Dylan Piper Bye at full-back (who held their full-forward to a low total). Hunter also 0layed a strong game, And up back Aidan Bary played loose and was fundamental in getting the ball into good spots int he forward line. Choco was back at his manic best, although he ended up with a gash out of his head that needed more than superglue to fix it up.Poor kicking in the second half meant the Nomads didn’t get the percentage booster they might have enjoyed. And no goals kicked in the last quarter – at the same time, it must be said that early on in the game the Nomads were lucky that the kicking of the Dogs was as poor as it was, with lots of shots missed when they should have not have been.
And Jimmy Walters kicked 4 goals. It mustn’t be forgotten
