Nomads have a strong win against Moree Suns

The New England Nomads won convincingly against the Moree Suns in their final outing before the finals with a 200 point victory. David “Modra” Richard—who was in devastating form—kicked 10 goals (and gave away another 5), Dr Quaalude (Angus Quail) kicked 7 and the Smiling man Liam Cudmore, kicked 5. There were many strong performances in the game, but standout players were Jesse Petrascu and Luke Raymond in the midfield, Brady MacDonald off the half back line and Wulu Hall (get around him Noeys). The final scores were Nomads 38.22.250 to the Moree Suns 6.6.42.

The game started in warm sunshine as always (it never rains in the New England) and the Nomads had one of their strongest line-ups with the return of Tom Hunt, Brady Macdonald and Wulu Hall, although Clarrie Barker was out with tonsilitis. The Nomads kicked to the Uralla end and realised they would have to play well with many of the Suns’ under 17 players showing plenty of spirit. The Nomads soon kicked into gear after about 5 minutes and Moddy was up to his tricks giving off goals and working well with Quaily in the forward line. Brady was killing it in the backline while Rambo, Andy Gray and Rambo were dominating in the centre. At the first change the Nomads had kicked ten goals leading 10.4.64 to the Suns 1.1.7.

The second quarter saw the Nomads take the foot off the pedal and they let the Suns kicked 4 goals while kicking 7 themselves. This was not the sort of form required of a final side. The score at half time was 17.6.108 to 5.3.33.

At the half time break Coach Treweeke was not happy and gave what can only be described as a spray.

The aforementioned spray had the desired effect and the Nomads int he third quarter played strong team football. They kicked 11 for the quarter and restricted the Suns to one solitary behind. A brilliant quarter – the most pleasing part being the team play. At the final break the scores were 28.16.284 to the Suns 5.4.34.

The final quarter saw the Nomads press on with their strong team play with everyone contributing. Modra started kicking goals from impossible angles as he is want to do at this time of year. Andy Gray and Conor Nest continued their domination in the rucks and in the air. And so it went. A highlight of the last ten minutes were the two 60 metre goals kicked by Isaiah “Izzy” Graham in which he grabbed the ball in the centre and launched bombs that were aimed truly.

Overall it was a good effort and was the first time for the year that the team had gelled. The azwardsd were as follows
