Nomads’ unbeaten run ends
The Tamworth Kangaroos put an end to the Nomads’ unbeaten run at Bellevue Oval on Saturday, the home side scoring 10.6 (66) to the Roos 13.10 (88).
New England started slowly in each half, allowing the Roos to get 24 point leads by the end of the first and third quarters. A second quarter rally saw the teams separated by just 5 points at half time but the Nomads were unable to repeat this in the fourth quarter and Tamworth maintained their advantage to the final siren.
A few new faces turned out for the Nomads today, with James Boatfield bringing James Angel and Trent Baade up the mountain from the coast and Dale Logan also debuting. Mark Clayton and Grant Wagstaff made their first appearances for the year, while Nathan Lambie made his last appearance for the club (again). The club are grateful to those that turned out.
Short of some of the regular forwards, Adrian Walsh played full forward in the first half and picked up two goals, Tom Granleese also ventured forward to be rewarded with three. James Boatfield kicked another three to take his tally for the season to 33, four ahead of Jed Ellis-Cluff for the season.
Riley Connor continued his fine form, picking up his third Players’ Player award in the last four games, with the otther awards going to Trent Baade (Coach’s), Mitch Evans (President’s), Hoani Morrell (Captain’s) and Nathan Lambie (VC’s).
