Auskick’s off to a good start

There’s a new way to get your children involved in Australian Rules Football and New England Nomads are putting on the program for the second year.

Auskick is a great way for boys and girls (from 5 to 12 years old) to learn the skills of Aussie Rules while having fun with friends. The focus is on fun, safety and ballhandling skill development (including kicking, marking and handball).

A registration day is being held during the Tablelands Cup at Bellevue Oval, UNE on Saturday, April 1. Players can sign up any time between 12.30 and 1.30pm where coordinators will be on hand with information about the program and all who sign up will receive an Auskick benefits pack.

In July last year Armidale Auskick played Tamworth Auskick before a capacity crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground, during the half-time break in the match between the Sydney Swans v West Coast Eagles. In 2005, some 140,000 children (including 21,000 girls) played Auskick across the country and many Auskickers took the fi eld during half-time at AFL matches.

In Armidale, it is not necessary to commit to coming every week and many kids come along to the sessions following Saturday morning soccer matches. The Armidale Auskick clinic will run during the football season on Saturdays, commencing on April 29, from 12 noon to 1pm at Bellevue Oval, UNE.

For 2006, the cost of registration is $65 which includes an AFL Auskick Pack containing a back-pack, Sherrin football, bucket hat, drink bottle, wallet with NAB $10 voucher, interactive DVD, booklets, magazines, poster, parents’ guide, insurance, discount card etc, as well as a New England Nomads junior football jersey.
