Fraser Kicks 11 and Modra 6 as the Nomads win decisively against the Roos (13th May)
Firstly, apologies from your correspondent – been taken up with old man diseases bunions and being reduced to eating nothing ‘cept for the faded and tastes pages from Samuel Peppys diaries.
So I am writing this now and a month has passed so the memory might be a little hazy. But it was an excellenrt win for the Nomads with Fraser Menzies kicking 11 goals, Modra 6, Clarrie Barker 4 and the Big Fish Trav Salmon kicking 2. Noah Connick was a brick wall in the backline marking everything that came his way and Nick Leopardi and Jack Keough were brilliant in the midfield.
This was the game, if my memory serves me well when the Little Fish (Brody Fsher) hurt his leg badly and was also memorable for the X-Man Xavier Walsh kicking his first goal after 4 seasons of trying (admittedly, like Kevin Sheedy who he does not resemble he has been in the back pocket for most of that time).
Final scores were Nomads 27.15.177 to the Tamworth Roos 3.4.22.
NB – In the women’s game, unfortunately the Nomads had to format.
It was a lovely sunny day with a light breeze blowing, as it is want to do, from the west. Big Tom Hunt was on the goal sticks and all as well with the world. The Nomads were quick out of the blocks and kicked 6 goals to the Roos solitary two points. Fraser was leading well and causing them enormous headaches while Nick Leopardi was killing it in the midfield. Unfortunately Brody Fisher hurt his ankle after bravely throwing himself into the game. At the first change the score was 6.5.41 to 0.2.2
The second quarter saw the Nomads really put their foot to the pedal and scored 8 goals. Fraser was unstoppable leading hard, marking strongly and kicking truly. Jack Keough in the ruck was doing an excellent job. The score at half-time was 14.7.91 to 1.2. 8.
In the third quarter, the cattle wrangler and gun-ringer from Adelaide River, Antonio Molinaro-Rathsmann, made his presence felt and it was great having another mid-fielder providing bite around the packs. During this quarter the ambulance arrived and the game was halted for 15 minutes while Brody was evacuated. The score at the third change was 19.10.124 to 2.3.15.
In the final quarter the Nomads went in their merry way continuing to kick goals from improbable angles. In this quarter, Trav went into the ruck freeing jack Keough to play the old style ruck rover and he wore out the leather on his boots kicking precisely to the leading forwards (mainly Fraser as it turned out).
It must be said that the game was played in excellent spirit and the Roos came back to the Nomads’ new home, the Grand, in large numbers much to their credit. It must also be said that Brody was discharged that evening and will be out for a while but will be back in the green before too long
