Wulu runs riot for the Nomads in loss against the Roos
An undermanned Nomads team had what was, in the end, a large loss against a superior Tamworth Roos team but not for want of effort from Wulu “Choco” Hall who had one of his best games in his 10 year team. With the university holidays in full swing a number of players were out but that is not to take anything away from the Roos who played a good brand of football. Modra and Clarrie kicked 3 each. Best for the Nomads were Choco, Drew Walsh, David Richards, new boy Michael Tedmanson, Tom Hunt, Clarrie Barker and Daniel Boyd. Final scores were Nomads 10.6.66 to the Roos 18.14.122.
PS There was no women’s game this week due to the university holidays.
It was a mild but sunny day in Armidale and the Nomads had a number of outs including Quenten Tomasini, Noah Connick, Ethan Karpany, Lindsay Brown, Fraser Menzies, Charlie Paine (in Belgium), Jake Bouchier, Hunter Greene and Tajo Quaife. However, the ranks were restocked with two new players from Adelaide Michael Tedmanson and Michael South. “Teddie” and “Southie” brought with them a wealth of experience as well a sizable cheer squad from their workmates at Uralla’s new solar farm.Indeed the solar farm crew got louder and louder, somewhat ironically, as the day went on and the sun started to lose some of its bite. Obviously they have some alternative power source.
Other ins were Matt Pine and premiership player Graham Knuckey’s oldest boy Flynn.
The game started well for the Nomads kicking to the Uralla end. Choco was running riot on the wing taking multiple bounces on multiple occasions much to the delight of the Solarists. The Nomads were highly competitive and at the end of the quarter scores were behind 4.0.24 to the Roos 5.3.33. However, the ball was getting into the Roos forward line too quickly. In the backline Boydee was doing a great job and Tom Hunt was winning in the ruck.
The second quarter started hopefully. Young Flynn Knucky was winning lots of ball and Clarrie was his usual ball-winning self. Drew Walsh was doing well in the forward line as well. And Modra was artfully collecting kicks with ease. The scores at half-time were Nomads 6.1.37 to the Roos 7.7.49.
The third quarter saw the Roos assert their dominance. They ran away with it. One pleasing feature however was the work of Xavier Walsh in defence who did a remarkable job on the Roos key forward. Along with Boydee Xave did a great job of repelling many of the Roos attacks. Nonetheless the Roos kicked 6 goals to the Nomads measly 2 to blow the lead out to 34 points. Three quarter scores were Nomads 8.4.52 to the Roos 13.8.86.
The last quarter saw the Roos increase their lead as the skills of the Roos came into play as the legs of all players tired. The Roos ended up winning by 56 points. Nonetheless there were a lot of positives to come out of the game.
