Fraser Scores 13 goals in an emphatic win by the Nomads
On Saturday Fraser Menzies joined an elite crew of Nomads by kicking 13 goals in what was an emphatic win on the part of the Nomads against a severely depleted but plucky Moree side. (They pushed on despite being low on numbners). Also joining in the goal-fest were Noah Connick with 7, Modra with 6, Tom Moscou 4, Frosty 2 and Taj 2 (the last 2 goals bringing a great cheer from the sidelines for some reason or other). The only other Nomads to kick more are Weston Whitby with 19 (2008) and Mark Handley 17 (2007); Handley (2007) and Whitby (2006) have also bagged 13 goals on other occasions. Best players for the Nomads were Fraser Menzies, Noah Connick, Tajo Quaife, Modra Richards, Hunter Greene and Quenten Tomasini. The final scores were 36.19.235 to 1.1.7.
It was a reasonably mild day for this time of year. Moree-Narribri arrived with a very undermanned team and so the Nomads lent players. Thanks to those who were willing to have a run on the other side and with this we were able to make a game of it. We kicked to the Uralla end and the scores at the first change were 8.5.53 to O.O.O.
The second quarter saw more of the same and Noah moved to cewntre half forward and Boydee to centre half back. Fraser was starting to get amongst the goals. At half time the scores were 17.11.103 to 0.1.1.
In the third quarter the Combine kicked a goal while the Nomads kicked 9. Scores at three quarter time were 26.15.1712 to 1.1.7.
The final quarter was freally more of the same. A highlight was Tajo—the Backman—Quaife kicking two goals on the run from the centre bounce. Magnificent! Perhaps it was the family watching, or pehraops just raw talent?
Unsurprisingly the players player was Fraser. A good effort though of course the opposition were very undermanned. Thanks to Moree for continuing on and not forfeiting. It was much better for everyone that a game was played.
