Nomads men lose by one single point to Inverell

The Nomads men have lost their third game of the year with a one point deficit against the Inverell team. It was a tight tussle and bad kicking in the last quarter (1.6) cost the Nomads dearly. Fraser Menzies kicked 4 for the Nomads, while centre half back (!) Noah Connick kicked three. Best players for the nomads were Noah Connick (for his strong marking and amongst other tings his long range kicking), Clarrie Barker, Uncle Charlie Ye, Fraser Menzies, Lindsay Brown and David Richards. The final scores were Inverell 12.8 80 to the Nomads 11.13.79.

Oddly the day started with a strong easterly – you could count on one hand the number of games that have been played over the years with the wind in that direction. The first quarter started very promisingly. The Nomads kicked to the Uralla end. The mids were winning clearances and by the end of the first quartes the team was well on top. Scores at the first change were 4.4.28 (Nomads) to 2.5.17 (Inverell).

The second quarter saw the Inverell team pick up the pace kicking 5 goals for the quarter. At half time the scores were 8.5 53 (Nomads) to 7.7.49.

In the third quarter the Nomads effort dropped away and they allowed the Inverell team to play their idiosyncratic form of the sport. Scores at three quarter time were Nomads 10.8. 68 to Inverell 11.8.74. It was clearly anyones game.

The Nomads had their chances in the last quarter – many many chances 0 but they failed to convert. Clarrie and Noah were brilliant in sending the ball forward but unfortunately it didn’t turn into majors. The team is there or thereabouts but needs to learn how to put the foot down at the right moments.
