Men’s Best and Fairest Awards: Clarrie Barker wins for the second year in a row.
In a closely contested competition, Coach Clarence Barker has won the 2021 best and fairest for the Nomads. Clarrie who started as an Auskicker with us in 2006 had a remarkable year, on a number of occasions, winning games that were in the balance with his sheer force of will. New boy Noah Connick was a close second and was awarded the Runners-Up trophy for 2021. Noah also won the Players Player trophy. Noah has been a remarkable asset since coming from Nelson Bay at the start of 2021.
Coming third—and winning the Most Consistent Award—was Charlie Paine (aka Mark Yep) who had a wonderful year of hard midfield football.
Most determined was Ira Sulzberger (who also polled well in the league votes). Ira had a strong season primarily playing in the backline though with various successful cameos in the forward line.
Most improved was the Lord Mayor of Armidale (LMA for short) Harrison Munday.
While best first year player went to the X-Man, aka Xavier Edward Francis Morris Walsh.
The goal-kicking award went to Patrick Sharp who was another wonderful recruit for the 2021 season.
Finally, the award for club person of the year went (very unsurprisingly) to Lindsay Brown for all of his efforts around the club, but most especially for his work with the Women’s team.
Well done to all of those award winners. Well deserved.
It was a year, cruelly cut short by COVID lockdowns, when the team at its best, and with a full complement, was unstoppable. We look forward to the challenge of 2022 to seeing the flag flying high above the Bellevue once again.
