Nomads Women have a Win Way out West

On Saturday May 12th, 2018 the New England Nomads Women’s side took on the Moree Suns in Narrabri. The women had a convincing win against the Suns 19.15.129 to 2.1.13.

Thanks for Women’s Inaugural Media Officer and Chief Scribe Leah McDonald for this report

After a long journey out west, the Nomads found their new pasture at Leitch Oval, Narrabri. The sun was shining in the sky but the Nomads shone on the field. Nomads started strong with 5 unanswered goals in the first quarter with Em Wilson, in her first game back in the black and green, scoring 2. The scoring frenzy continued throughout the game with Lisa Raymond, Katie Aistrope, Leah Macdonald, Nat Bignell, Sam Rickwood and Karina Brown all with goals next to their name. After playing in the backline in the previous game Leah was determined to show the coach why she should be upfront, kicking 9 goals for the game.

The frequency of goals was thanks to the strength and endurance of the Nomad centres with Eliza Metz and Darcy Cromack dominating possession and Catherine Lobbe and Sue Chambers ready to attack when needed. Amy Dyason was a tackling machine in her debut match and Moree had little response to the height and skill of Nomad ruck Karina. Moree fought hard taking a few Nomads to the ground with Lisa dislocating her shoulder. More than this was required to stop her though with one armed Lisa playing out the match with unquestionable courage.

Narrabri locals Lionel and Dawn were absolutely delighted with the days play with Nomad granddaughter Katie kicking a goal so magnificent that it is sure to be mentioned at Christmas lunches for years to come.

In great sportsmanship the Suns noted that the Nomad team had vastly improved since their encounter just 3 weeks prior. The women now have a couple of weeks off to further develop their ever-growing skills with their next match on June 2nd which is sure to be a tightly contested encounter at home against the Tamworth Kangaroos.
