New Breed Nomads do well against the Swans
A very new look team of Nomads won against the Tamworth Swans on Saturday the 14th of April with a number of the new faces in the team, including Angus Quail, Conor Nest, Nick Locke and Charlie Carson shining, as well as stellar performances from reliables from previous years such as Luke Rambo Raymond and the Big Dawg, Coach Treweeke. The Quaalude kicked 6 and new boy Will Gardner kicked 3. The final scores were Nomads 22.20.152 to 4.3.27.
When the Nomads arrived at the Bellevue Cathedral weather conditions were mixed. While the temperature was neither too hot nor too cold—and in that sense just right—there was a strong wind blowing across the ground from the west which would as it turns out make things difficult for forward entries. With Captain Modra away in WA, vice captains Wulu Hall and Rambo Raymond led the team (and did so with aplomb). Rambo won the toss and unconventionally and against Modra’s advice, kicked to the grandstand end but it turned out well. The Nomads kicked 5 for the quarter – one negative aspect of the quarter was that the ball spent way too much time on the Albies flank from where it was difficult to score. After the first quarter, the scores were 5.4.34 to 0.0.00.
In the second quarter the Nomads kicked to the Uralla end. Wulu Hall and Rambo were leading with aplomb. Conor Nest also took some great marks around the kickouts and Quaily was on fire at centre half forward. The backline were very strong and Alex Shem and Frosty were leading the way here. At half time the scores were 9.9.63 to 1.0.6.
The Nomads came out after there break with the wind having dropped off a bit. Nick Locke was dominating in the midfield and Will Gardner was causing headaches up forward for Swans backs. At three quarter time the scores were 14.1599 to 2.2.14.
The final quarter was more of the same and except for an unfortunate Jilbi mishap in the goal square the team as a whole played well together. Angus Quail ended up with 6 goals. The team had been well led by Rambo and Wulu.
