Clarrie Barker wins Nomads Best and Fairest Award

The winner of the Best and Fairest for 2017 is Clarrie Barker with the Runners Up award going to Luke ‘Rambo’ Raymond. Clarrie, born and bred in Armidale, is the first of our Auskickers to win the best and fairest. He also won the Players’ Player award. Along with Cameron Graham he has had a stellar year representing NSW Under 17’s and playing for an under 19’s Sydney Swans team. We shall watch their future careers with great anticipation.

The runner up Luke Raymond has also had a brilliant year; probably the lightest player in the team he is fearless in his attack on the ball. Third place went to Paddy Tobias, another player willing to venture where even angels are loathe to go. He was awarded the most consistent award. The most determined went to another fearless Nomad, Tim Keys, who unfortunately will not be around in 2018. He will be sorely missed

The goal kicking award went to another local favorite, David ‘Modra’ Richards. Modra had another brilliant year but was unfortunately injured during the Grand Final.

The most improved for 2017 was Sam Bioletti, another one of our Auskickers who has been around the club for many years. It was very pleasing to see how much he improved this year to become a strong player whether in the forward line or the backs.

The best first year was a recruit who came all the way from Bright in Victoria, Alex Shem. Masquerading as a forward initially (or was the the selectors’ misapprehension?) he shone in the backline. Like Modra, Shemmy was unavailable in the Grand Final through injury which was a great shame.

Finally the club person award this year has gone to Amy Pittman who organized the women’s team (and often the men’s as well) and was tireless in her efforts to promote football in the region. The award was very well deserved.
