Nomads silence Saints

The New England Nomads sent out a warning to opposition teams in the North West AFL competition as they romped to a massive 115 point win against Inverell.

It was the Nomads’ new recruits and young guns who fired and just outpaced their opposition.

Ethan Karpany nailed eight goals in the drubbing while Cameron Graham impressed with five.

The game was close at the end of the opening quarter with the Nomads just in front 2.2-14 to 1.3-9.

The next stage of the match it was all the visiting side as they added 10 goals to their tally before the halftime break. The home side’s luckless start continued in the remaining quarters as the Nomads stretched their lead to win 23.12-151 to the Saints’ 5.6-36.

Nomads coach Tom Hunt believes the Inverell game was an indication of how lethal his side can be when their game plan clicks.

“It was quite pleasing, particularly going up there, they are always pretty tough and always seem to get a good crowd,” he said.

“It was a big win although they were missing some players. There were patches there when we definitely played, not only the best football for this year, but in recent times.

“The young blokes moved the footy really well, really quick and that is how we got around them.

“At the start of this year we spoke about wanting to take the opposition on because we have a lot of young blokes who are very quick and have a lot of great skills and they implemented that really well.”

The New England team are back at Bellevue this Saturday to host a youthful Moree Suns team coming off a bye.

“Moree have been in the competition a few years now and each year they have got better and better,” Hunt said.

“Being a new club too, they have a lot of juniors so they are going to be tough.

“A lot of youth, a lot of speed so they are going to be tough this week.”

The Nomads’ talent has not gone unnoticed at a higher level with two of the club’s rising stars selected to play for the Sydney Swans Academy team.

Cameron Graham and Clarrie Barker will play the GWS Giants Academy on Saturday, May 13 in Blacktown.
