The New England Nomads continued their dominance in the Tamworth AFL competition after hammering the second-placed Inverell Saints.

Dave Richards chases the ball v Inverell 14 May, 2016

Continue to conquer: Dave Richards chases down the ball in the New England Nomads’ thumping victory over the second-placed Inverell Saints at Armidale’s Bellevue Oval on Saturday afternoon.

Coming off a bye from the weekend before, the Nomads turned up to Bellevue Oval with the intention of fixing the errors which were riddled throughout their game against the Gunnedah Bulldogs.

They did just that racing away with four goals early on before ultimately securing the match 142 points to the Saints’ 39.

Coach Jed Ellis-Cluff said his team worked hard on their skills during the two weeks off and was pleased they managed to step their game up a notch.

“Very happy about it,” he said.

“We ran away in the end, in the last quarter.

“We jumped them in the first 10 minutes.

“We kicked four or five goals.

“They pegged it back until half-time where I think there was only thirty points in it.”

The Saints were down a few key players and the New England team were able to capitalise.

Ellis-Cluff highlighted a few players as being standouts but believed a team effort across the board was the thing that ensured they earned the points.

“Tom Hunt was really good down back,” he said.

“Hamish Pearce was really good in the middle.

“Zac Economou kicked seven goals in his first game back which is really good and gave us that good strong focal point to kick to.

“I think the most pleasing thing was that it was a really good team effort.

“There wouldn’t be any single player who you would say played out of their skin or played their very best game for the club but at the same time there was none you would say had a shocker.”

The junior Nomads also picked up their first victory of the season in their match prior to the senior’s fixture.

New England’s Clarrie Barker and Cameron Graham have also been selected into the Swans’ training academy.

They will travel to Coffs Harbour weekly to train with the squad.
