Troops back to help cause

Three big names will return to the New England Nomads’ line-up this weekend and it couldn’t come at a more opportune time.
The Nomads have spent the week preparing for tomorrow’s grand final rematch against arch-rivals the Inverell Saints.
After having 24 players unavailable for last weekend’s opening round loss against the Tamworth Kangaroos, the Zac Economou-coached Nomads will welcome back up to 10 of those players tomorrow.
Included in the returning posse are star defensive backs Tom Granleese and Tom Hunt and gun midfielder Jed Ellis-Clough.
“That will help a lot getting those guys back,” Economou said.
“Especially Tom Granleese and Tom Hunt down the back.
“Our guys down the back got a lot of pressure put on them last week and those two will help ease that.”
The Nomads have won the last three Tamworth AFL grand finals and it’s been the Saints they’ve toppled in each decider during the streak. Economou said his players shift up a gear when they take on the Saints.
“The boys always look forward to playing Inverell,” he said.
“There’s been a bit of feeling there the last few years. When you play a team in three straight grand finals you are going to build up a pretty strong rivalry.”
Economou was far from disappointed with his side’s performance in last weekend’s loss and he said that attitude has been reflected at training this week.
“We don’t need to improve on anything,” he said. “We just need to get back to what we have been doing the last few years.”
