Nomads need to step up: coach
From the Armidale Independent, 16/07/2014
New England Nomads coach Zac Economou says his side must find another gear if it is to defeat the Kangaroos in Tamworth this Saturday.
Despite going into the game on the back of a 10-goal win against Gunnedah, Economou was largely unimpressed with the performance of the Nomads at Bellevue Oval.
”They turned up with 14 players and we gave them a couple to make it 16 on 16, but we weren’t really switched on to play,” he said.
Dave Richards booted nine goals in a dominant display, while Economou slotted five in another rare foray into the forward line.
Johnathon Frost was best afield in his 100th game for the club, while Mark Spencer and Tom Hunt also performed well.
Two players that didn’t make the final Nomads squad were among Gunnedah’s better players.
Clarrie Barker kicked four goals against his usual team-mates, while Cameron Graham also got plenty of the ball.
”It was good that they got a game and they did well,” Economou said.
”We really just wanted to play footy. There was no point letting them forfeit.
“ The Kangaroos go into Saturday’s game on the back of a 35-point loss to Inverell, but Economou said they would be stronger at home in Tamworth and would need to be respected.
“It’s a big danger game for us,” he said.
