No rest for Nomads

From the Armidale Independent, 09/07/2014
Finals are locked in and the minor premiership looks to be in the bag, but the New England Nomads aren’t going to rest easy for the remainder of the Tamworth AFL season.

On Saturday they are expected to chalk up a comfortable victory against the visiting Gunnedah outfit, but coach Zac Economou wants to see improvement across the board after just scraping over the line against Inverell last time out.

”We’re going OK, but there’s still a lot to improve on,” he said.

”If we don’t improve other sides can easily go past us.”

The reigning premiers are undefeated with an 8-0 record, but their last month wasn’t as dominant as their first month.

The Nomads, as well as the Bulldogs, will be fresh after the TAFL enforced a general bye on Saturday.

A few players were glad the break came as they looked to recover from niggling injuries.

Nomads skipper Weston Whitby had been carrying a tight hamstring for several weeks, while Economou pulled up sore from a tough match in the wet against the Saints.

Gunnedah has won just one game this season, defeating the bottom-placed Tamworth Swans.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 2pm at Bellevue Oval.
