From the Armidale Independent, 07/05/2014
Weston Whitby booted five goals as the New England Nomads ran riot against Narrabri in the Tamworth AFL season opener on Saturday.

A strong opening quarter set the foundation for the Nomads’ win on the road, with the Armidale-based side kicking 4.7 to 0.1 in the first term.

With the wind in their backs in the second quarter, the Eagles reduced the margin to 25 points at the main break, but the Nomads booted 12 goals to two in the second half to win by 87 points.

The final score was 19.18 (132) to 6.9 (45).

Whitby and Isaiah Graham each kicked five goals, while David Richards slotted home four.

Best for New England were Matthew Foley, playing coach Zac Economou, Velani Chakalisa, Johnathon Frost and Whitby.

The Nomads will look to keep their form rolling when they host the Tamworth Swans at Bellevue Oval on Saturday at 2pm.

The Swans lost 11.16 (82) to 5.10 (40) against Inverell, while in the other match, Tamworth Kangaroos defeated Gunnedah 16.15 (111) to 6.8 (44).
