Nomads victorious in Inverell
New England Nomads arrive at the Queen’s Birthday long weekend undefeated after an impressive 15.4 (94) to 6.7 (53) victory over the Inverell Saints at Varley Oval. After a tight first quarter the Nomads pulled away before half time. The Saints matched them in the third quarter but the Nomads extended their lead in the final quarter to run out 41 point victors.
No match against the Saints is ever easy, particularly in Inverell, so the Nomads can be pleased with their efforts. The week off will give them time to recover before the second half of the season gets under way.
Jame Boatfield, Jed Ellis-Cluff and Simon Stubbs dominated the scoring, with the kicking for goal very accurate in this match.
Having each received the Players’ Player award in the last fortnight, Zac Economou and Riley Connor shared it this week; while Johnathon Frost, James Boatfield and Jed Ellis-Cluff picked up the President’s, Coach’s and Captain’s awards for their endeavours. Recognising the importance of off-field contributions to the success of the club, the Vice-Chancellor’s award went to Brendan Nolan.
