Nomads dominate Bulldogs
By Siobhan McCarthy (Armidale Express, 15/05/2013)
The New England Nomads have taken control of this year’s Tamworth AFL competition following their fifth straight win against the Bulldogs.
The Nomads accounted for the Gunnedah side 22.19 (151) to 8.7 (55) and the side’s coach Tom Granleese said he expected his side to take control of the game early.
“They have a really good midfield but it was sort of what we expected,” he said.
“It was quite even to begin with but our fitness sort of started to show … and blew them wide open.
“And in the second quarter we kicked about five goals in five minutes.”
Granleese said Zac Economou and Hoani Morrell helped take control of the Nomad’s game.
“Economou pretty much took every mark that came to him and kicked five goals,” he said.
“While Morrell provided plenty of drive through the midfield and Luke Raymond was fantastic out on the wing.”
The Nomads are the only team undefeated in the competition and Granleese said they are focused on defending their title.
“We started planning to defend the title at the start of the season… It was always going to be at the back of our minds but we are not getting ahead of ourselves.”
