Saturday saw the new TAFL season commence with the Nomads travelling to Tamworth to take on the Tamworth Swans. A combination of University holidays, illness and work commitments meant that the Nomads travelled to Tamworth with a depleted line up. Despite the fact that the side lacked experience they more than made up for it with enthusiasm and battled valiantly for all four quarters, in the end only going down by 17 points to one of the most experienced sides in the competition.

Given the circumstances all the Nomad players can hold their heads high as everyone made a contribution to the performance. Tom Walsh back to help from university commitments in Melbourne was fantastic in a best on ground performance at centre half back whilst Matt Woodward was not far behind him playing in the centre. Defenders Nathan Lambie and Leigh Holmes repelled multiple attacks from the Swan’s and Mark Clayton who came out of retirement for the day turned back time with similarly great game at half back to which we were once accustomed to seeing from him.

Up front the mercurial Weston Whitby and Dave Richards again showed that the Nomads are very fortunate to have the two most dangerous forwards in the competition playing in our side. Their prowess in front of goal kept the Nomads in the game all day and finished off the hard work that was being down back down the ground. In the engine room Ompsy Temoso, Velani Chakalisa and Caleb Dobos battled hard all day with very little rest and new players Jabez Tilto, Bright Asante, Tyler Duroux and Jared Veall all put in great games for their first ever game for the club.
