Nomads bow out of the finals

From the Armidale Express, 12/09/2011
The New England Nomads suffered their first home loss of the season on Saturday and it proved costly after they bowed out of the Essential Energy AFL competition. The 28 point loss to Inverell Saints in the preliminary final at Bellevue marks the end to a strong but ultimately unsuccessful season for the Nomads where a premiership looked on offer midway through the year.

Despite trailing 5.8.38 to 4.4.28 at halftime the Nomads could not match the premier as the Saints kicked three crucial goals in the final term to book their grand final berth against Tamworth Kangaroos this Saturday in Tamworth.

In the end Nomads were beaten 11.14.80 to 7.10.52.

The Nomads threatened to close the gap throughout the match and at various stages reduced the margin to ten points.

After they trailed by nine at quarter time, a three goal second quarter reduced the margin to just ten at half time. Saints pushed their lead to 15 at three quarter time and a three goal final quarter burst sealed the match for the Saints.
