Nomads caught napping
Perhaps it was the euphoria of the previous week’s victory against Inverell or perhaps it was over-confidence but the Nomads started the game flat-footed, allowing the Tamworth Roos to kick 4.5 to their solitary point, and were never really able to close that gap. The final margin of 58 points was indicative of the difference between the teams on the day.
There had been a tremendous build-up to the match but the first quarter was an anti-climax. The ball hardly made it into the Nomads’ forward line, with the Roos playing precision football. They appeared to want the ball more and the Nomads players seemed to be a step or two behind all quarter. The second quarter was a more even affair with the Nomads kicking 5 goals to the Roos 6. The third quarter put the result beyond doubt with the Roos kicking 5 whilst the Nomads only managed 2. In the final quarter the Nomads, to their credit, battled on outscoring the Roos.
The Roos movement of the ball was too much for the Nomads who seemed tired and lack lustre. If they are to beat both the Saints and the Roos over the next few weeks, then there needs to be a more concerted effort to switch on at the beginning of the game. In the middle of the ground, Hamish and Darby Pearce and Calla Teseling battled valiantly. In the backline Dan Perry, Rowdy Ballagh and Jonathan Frost worked hard to keep the Roos quiet. Benji Julien also put in an excellent effort up forward. It must be said also that the forwards made good use of their limited opportunities.
We look forward to this Saturday’s game against the Saints. It should be an excellent contest
