Roos overrun Nomads

A second quarter blitzkrieg of 7 goals into the wind by the Tamworth Roos was the centrepiece of their victory over the Nomads on Saturday. The Nomads, who had a number of key players out, battled on to show some pride on the second half, even outscoring the Roos in the final quarter.

The game which had been transferred from Tamworth No.1’s notionally rain-affected ground to Gunnedah’s Wolseley Oval began at 1.00 in windy conditions. The Roos won the toss and elected to kick with the wind. In this first quarter the Roos dominated possession and could have scored much more heavily, with only inaccurate kicking preventing them from doing so. It was expected that the wind might assist the Nomads in the second quarter but the Roos in fact increased their tally into the wind with accurate passing to forwards a standout feature of their game.

In the second half the Nomads regained some composure and managed to show some teamwork and skills. Best players for the Nomads were Hamish Pearce, Benji Julien, Johnathan Frost, Calla Teseling, Dan Sides and Nathan Lambie.

There will need to be a marked improvement from the team in all areas in next week’s Qualification Final. The match, against the Inverell Saints, will be held at the Bellevue and should see a tense struggle between two sides eager to show that the Roos are not the standout team of the season.

    Nomads,

The finals are different games all together. Forget about the home and away games.

When you run onto the ground have a look at the scoreboard. It will read zero for both teams.

That means it depends on what you do for the next four quarters.

All the very best for a great win.
