An ugly win is a win nevertheless

Despite injuries to a number of key players, and some excellent running football on the part of the Gunnedah Bulldogs, the Nomads were able to shrug off their opponents in the second half to run out eventual winners, the final margin being 17 points.

After the recent loss of Mitchell Reece, Omphile Temoso’s leg strain and Weston Whitby’s on-going knee problems, the Nomads did not need more injuries. Unfortunately early in the first quarter Hamish Ross, who had taken over from Ompsy in the ruck, tore his hamstring. Luckily Nick Schultz stood up and took over rucking duties doing an excellent job there and all around the ground.

The first half was a tight, dogged struggle and at half-time the teams had 6 goals apiece with the Nomads four points up. The Nomads forwards had been rather cavalier in their attitude in the first half and had not really taken advantage of their opportunities.

The third quarter saw the Nomads score four goals to one with the forwards working much harder. Even though Gunnedah came home well it was not enough to bring them victory.

Best players for the Nomads were Hamish Pearce (working hard in the middle), Calla Teseling, Nick Schultz, Benji Julian, Velani Chukalisa and Rowdy Ballagh. Dave ‘Modra’ Richards popped up with four goals despite being heavily tagged all day (though this is something he will have to get used to!) It was not the prettiest football the team have played this year but persistence paid off in the end.

The Nomads have the Roos next week and hope to have a full squad when they take on the ladder leaders. As usual, get to training boys! It is only one week to the finals.

Nonsense! The world (including Nomads strategies) exists independently of what we think; we just don;t have unmediated access to it.
