Landmark marked
For the second time this season the Nomads came up with a big win to celebrate a landmark game, this time to mark Caleb Dobos’s fiftieth appearance for the side. Caleb is the first Nomad to reach this milestone having been an Armidale Auskicker.
The Tamworth Swans were short on numbers on Saturday, symptomatic of their travails this year, with the result that the match was played 16-a-side. Coach Brendan Meehan was then left to work out how to rotate his extra bench members to keep everybody happy.
The quarter-by-quarter scores show an unsurprising pattern to the game with the Nomads becoming more dominant in the second half as the Swans tired. Kicking efficiency was better than in last week’s defeat to Inverell, but still left room for improvement. Hamish Ross kicked the big haul he has been threatening for most of the season while Weston Whitby and Dave Richards kept their battle for EETAFL top goalscorer going.
This win consolidated the Nomads’ second place while a third victory of the season for Muswellbrook saw the Swans drop to the bottom of the ladder. New England need to keep going over the next two weeks to build momentum going into the finals and be certain of a home final.
