Grand final day experience on offer for Auskickers
From the Armidale Express, 05/04/2010.
Armidale kids have been encouraged by all 16 AFL captains to register for the National Australia Bank (NAB) AFL Auskicker of the Year competition for their chance to take centre stage on the hallowed Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) turf on Grand Final day.
This year NAB is again looking to reward 22 Auskickers who best reflect team work, enthusiasm, commitment and passion.
The successful Auskickers will travel to Melbourne to march in the 2010 Toyota AFL Grand Final Parade, play on the MCG at halftime and present medals to the 2010 premiership players.
In addition to the grand final experience of a lifetime, local kids will be in the running to win a $5000 NAB Smart junior Saver account plus personal footy mentoring from Geelong’s Joel Selwood in 2011.
Last year’s winner, Kyle Skene, is already the envy of his friends after a couple of visits from the Cats star in 2010.
Two-time Geelong premiership player and NAB AFL Auskick Ambassador, Joel Selwood, helped launch the program in 2009 and said he was excited to be involved again in 2010.
“I urge all kids to register for this fantastic competition for their chance to experience AFL Grand Final week just like a player. I’ve been lucky enough to experience three grand finals and those memories will stay with me forever,” he said.
“I’m passionate about getting involved with the NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year competition. Kyle is a great kid and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed taking on the role of mentor and hopefully I can have a positive impact on his future development.”
This year NAB celebrates five years in NAB AFL Auskick and during this time has contributed over one million dollars in resources, which had an enormous impact on communities Australia wide and gives young people the opportunity to participate in football every week.
In 2010, NAB AFL Auskick will be running two fantastic competitions in addition to the NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year, the NAB AFL Auskick Centre of the Year Award and NAB AFL Footy Frenzy, which will benefit participants and centres around the country.
