Tablelands Cup, Day 1
On a beautiful autumn day at Bellevue Oval, the first day of the Tablelands Cup was a great success. Particularly if you were associated with the New England Nomads or North Coffs Kangaroos.
The Nomads and the Roos each defeated the Inverell Saints and Nambucca Valley Lions to ensure themselves a place in Sunday’s final.
The results for the day were:
Nomads | 5.7 (37) | def. | Saints | 1.6 (12) |
Roos | 5.6 (36) | def. | Lions | 3.1 (19) |
Saints | 2.3 (15) | def. by | Roos | 5.8 (38) |
Nomads | 7.6 (48) | def. | Lions | 0.8 (8) |
In addition, the Tamworth Swans played a quarter against each of the four competing teams, a useful addition to the timetable to give everyone a bit more of a run.
Nomads’ coach Brendan Meehan was very satisfied with the performance of his team in their first games of the season, and in some cases the first games of their lives. A high level of teamwork and effort was kept up across both matches, and all the new Nomads acquitted themselves well.
