Muswellbrook clash a must win for Nomads
By James Polson (Armidale Express, 31/07/2009)
If last week’s match with the top-of-the-table Tamworth Swans was a must-win for the New England Nomads, tomorrow’s trip to the country music capital could be the last throw of the dice as far as their finals aspirations go.
The Nomads can ill afford to drop another game as the finals loom and they remain two wins outside the top four, but should have little trouble accounting for the still-winless Muswellbrook Cats.
The Armidale side came close against the league leaders last week, but were once again hampered by some poor finishing in front of goal.
Coach Brendan Meehan conceded that had some of those opportunities been converted, the result would have been different – a tale that has rung all too true for the Nomads this season.
The locals will head into the match with a strong side, but will be without Nick Schultz tomorrow.
He will be absent due to work commitments.
Tomorrow’s other Tamworth Australian Football League fixtures see the top four sides face off – a scenario that could benefit the Nomads’ chances should the fourth-placed Saints go down.
Inverell host the Swans at Varley Oval, while the Tamworth Kangaroos head west to face the Gunnedah Bulldogs.
