The Nomads put up a good fight against the Gunnedah Bulldogs, but in the end, their fitness let them down, according to coach Brendan Meehan.

“The first half of the match was really well played,” Meehan said.

“We kept fairly even at first – sometimes they got a few points ahead and sometimes we did.

“There was only five points between us at half time, and then by three-quarter time, there was 18 points between us.

“In the end we lost by 19 points – I think the Bulldogs had the edge when it came to fitness, and that is what cost us the game.”

Meehan said that a few critical errors, through missing targets with handballs and kicks also cost the team crucial points.

“I think we had a real attacking attitude last week, and we lacked it this week, which let us down,” he said.

Meehan is confident that the Nomads are not out of the competition just yet.

“We’ll have to win every game, but it’s still within our reach,” he said.

Meehan said that the team would be stepping up their fitness and skills training.

“We’re going to have to work even harder if we are to remain competitive,” he said.

The Nomads played with a full team, with Warren Redhead playing as permanent stand-in for injured centre halfback Paul Harris.

“Warren is playing really well,” Meehan said, “He’s not our youngest player, but he’s stepping into the role really well.”

The Bulldogs defeated the Nomads 10.6 66 to 12.13 85.
