Nomads look to turn tables on Gunnedah Bulldogs

From the Armidale Express, 10/07/2009.
When the Nomads last played Gunnedah Bulldogs, they lost by about ’80 or 90 points’ according to coach Brendan Meehan, but he is confident that they will not go down without a fight this weekend.

“Gunnedah did very well last game,” Meehan said.

“They came out really hard in the first quarter, got a big lead and just kept going.

“We had a bad start that game – two players, Caleb Dobos and Sam Trotman pulled out at the last minute due to illness, which threw us, and we weren’t at our peak, physically or mentally, but this time I think we’ll be in better form.”

Meehan said that having the right attitude was the thing that gave the Bulldogs the edge last time, over any particular winning strategy or mode of attack.

Although Meehan has thoughts about the best plan of attack, he prefers to keep his strategies between himself and the team.

“We executed our game plan well, and we plan to keep it up,” Meehan said.

“We’ve talked a lot about what they did to control the game, and what we can do to come back at them with more force, but having the right attitude is the key to winning, and by far the most important thing.

“We need to go out with the right mind set, get on the field with confidence and play hard, and not stand back and watch ourselves get beaten.

“They caught us on the back foot last time, but this time we’re going to go in harder.”

Last weekend the Nomads had no injuries and Meehan is hoping that this weekend’s game can be played with a full team.

“We’ve improved throughout the season,” Meehan said.

“Things are starting to really come together for us, but our biggest strategy is giving our players a sense that they can do it, and that we’ve got what it takes to win this time.”

The Nomads will play the Bulldogs in an at home game tomorrow.
