Nomads unable to break through
The New England Nomads’ solid start to the Tamworth Australian Football League (TAFL) competition is looking more and more like a distant memory after the Armidale side slumped to another loss on Saturday.
The Nomads went down by eight points to the top-of-the-table Tamworth Swans 12-10-82 to 11-8-74.
New England had the Swans’ measure in round one, but were unable to make it two from two.
Similar to that earlier match the Swans took an eight-point lead into quarter time.
The Nomads reduced the deficit to seven in the second term, before coming out firing in the third quarter to reduce the Swans’ lead to just one point.
It would be as close as the Nomads would get, pulling away by another seven points in the final quarter.
Ken Clayton was best on ground for the Nomads.
He was ably supported by Adam Wright, Will Hamilton and Nomads captain Matthew Maxwell.
Standouts for the Swans were Gavin Knee, who booted five majors, Tristan Jones, Lachlan Rowling and captain Damien Wendt.
Next week the Nomads travel to Muswellbrook to face the Cats, who were thrashed by 150 points at the hands of Gunnedah at the weekend.
