Round 15: Nomads secure home final
A bit of steel was shown in Gunnedah last week, exemplified by an injured Anthony Reid jumping up and down to be let back on the field when things were going badly in the third quarter. This was despite him having received a high hit in the first half which left him looking more dazed than usual.
Having gradually imposed themselves and built up a five-goal lead in the first half, the Nomads frittered it away in the third quarter to trail by two points going into the fourth quarter. An early goal to Weston Whitby in the final quarter settled nerves a bit, swung the momentum away from Gunnedah and set up a resilient, determined quarter of football from the Nomads.
Match-day awards went to Matt Maxwell (Players’ Player), Caleb Dobos (President’s), Glen Northway (Coach’s) and Mark Clayton (Captain’s).
The Nomads goalkickers were: Weston Whitby (4), Sam Trotman (2), Caleb Dobos (2), Matt Maxwell (2), Rich Malone, Lahl Jenkins and Johnathon Frost. Weston’s four goal haul confirmed him as winner of the TAFL goal kicker award, the Gerry Griffiths Medal which he received later that evening at the TAFL award ceremony.
