News of Nomad

Following recent queries from Nomads supporters, many of whom have left for school or university holidays, the following is a brief update on the New England Nomads position and chances heading towards the finals. The senior side has three games left in the regular season following which will be a general bye and then the finals. The Nomads currently sit in fourth place on the ladder and have games left against the Tamworth Swans (in Tamworth), Muswellbrook Cats (in Tamworth) and finally the Gunnedah & District Bulldogs (in Gunnedah).
The finals will include the top four clubs, with the top two finishers (almost certainly the Inverell Saints and Tamworth Kangaroos) playing each other in the first week, the winner will host the Grand Final, while the loser gets another chance. From the current position, winning all three games will have the Nomads in third place, losing all three games could see a fifth place finish, while a combination of wins and losses will most likely leave the Nomads in fourth place. While the location hasn’t been confirmed, the third and fourth placed finishers will most likely be Gunnedah and the New England side. The club will strengthen considerably from this week as university holidays end and the club welcomes back absent players.
The final game against Gunnedah will be followed by the Tamworth Australian Football League’s Best and Fairest awards night in Tamworth. In recent years the Nomads have come close to the top prize in the form of Tom Hunt (second in 2006) and Glen Northway (second in 2007). This season Anthony Reid, Nomads social co-ordinator, will be the Nomads best hope.
Also returning after a holiday hiatus are the Armidale under-14’s training sessions and games. The training sessions will resume on Thursday afternoons at Bellevue Oval (4-5pm) with the games featuring Duval HS and TAS returning in the coming weeks. All players are also very welcome to attend seniors training (from 5:30-7:00pm).
