Nomads look to fire away from home against Cats
From the Armidale Express, 20/06/2008
The New England Nomads will face an unknown quantity this weekend in the Tamworth Australian Football League (TAFL) when they travel to Muswellbrook to take on the Cats in round nine.
The Nomads are yet to face the Cats in 2008, after the Cats forfeited their scheduled match due to lack of numbers.
The Nomads are looking to continue their good form and put a few points past Muswellbrook, who have only won one game this season.
Nomads coach Brendan Meehan said things are looking good for his team.
“We’ve got a good side for the weekend, with a a full 22 to play, despite the university holidays, which is good,” Meehan said.
The Nomads have shown good form on the road, beating Gunnedah the last time they were away from home.
“We played well against Gunnedah, we could have beaten them by more, but we did alright,” Meehan said.
“If we can get the teamwork happening we should play well on the weekend.
“we should have a good win, but we will have to put the hard yards in, we can’t get too complacent.”
While the numbers are good at their matches, the same cannot be said for training, with university exams playing havoc with team preparation.
“The blokes with exams have been studying pretty hard, and they are finding it difficult to find the time to get to training,” Meehan said.
“We could have 10 at training on a Tuesday, then 15 on a Thursday, then 10 the following Thursday. It just depends who can make it.”
Meehan said things will look up for the side after university returns.
“We should be able to turn things around a lot better then,” he said.
