Round 18: Nomads secure third spot

It has been a while since the Nomads have strung good performances together but following on from last week’s showing against the Inverell Saints they came out on top against the Tamworth Kangaroos by 11.12 (78) to 10.7 (67).

The play was not quite to the standard set last weekend; the clean, flowing movement of the ball was visible in less frequent patches. However, this week the Nomads added a bit more commitment and battling to their play. They dug deep when the Roos started to gain the upper hand and held on until they could impose themselves again. This should serve them well in the coming weeks.

Best players for the Nomads were Glen Northway (Coach’s award), Mitch Penberthy, Anthony Reid, Mark Curran, Matt Maxwell, Dave MacLellan, James Downie (Players’ Player), Rich Malone (Captain’s award) and Kendall Laing (President’s award). The awards and TAFL votes were spread around this week, reflecting the that this was a good team performance rather than one built on a few outstanding individuals.

Adrian Walsh had a day out in the forwards and kicked four goals, while James Downie, Anthony Reid and Jay Dunlop all got two each and Matt Maxwell kicked one.

The finals start next weekend with the Nomads travelling to Muswellbrook and the Roos and Swans fighting it out in Tamworth.
