Nomads do enough against Eagles

By Michael Morrissey (Armidale Express, 06/07/2007)
The New England Nomads have scored a solid 10.10.70 to 4.8.32 win against the Narrabri Eagles in a tough encounter at Leitch Oval in Narrabri.

In a physical Tamworth Australian Football League battle the Eagles stayed in check with the Nomads for most of the match before New England flew out to a winning lead.

Despite coming away with the points, Nomads coach Adrian Walsh was disappointed not to win by a bigger margin.

The Nomads struggled with the more close and packed game that Narrabri played.

“It was good to win but I would have liked to score five or six more goals,” he said.

Standout performers for the Nomads were Glen Northway, Anthony Reid, Jonathan Frost and Rich Malone.

Hamish Robertson did well to match to the physicality of the Eagles game.

The Nomads were hurt by several players being unavailable.

The Nomads are now focusing on trying to win the remaining games before the finals.

They have a tough run, fronting up against Gunnedah before playing the Tamworth Kangaroos and the Inverell Saints.

“The Roos and Inverell seem to be the teams to beat at this stage,” Walsh said.

“The Muswellbrook Cats seem to have dropped off the pace.”
