Young Nomads find their feet against Tamworth
From the Armidale Express, 30/05/2007
Armidale Auskick held a carnival against Tamworth at Bellevue Oval last Saturday with the visitors finishing trumps in all three matches.
The Auskickers took to the field in three grades: eight years and under, 10 and under and 12 and under with the matches running for an hour.
With close to 100 players plus families and supporters tuning in, there was a solid day of football action.
In the U12s young Nomad Jack Campbell kicked a long goal from a tight angle following a brilliant passage of play which saw the Morris twins, Nicholas and Jamie, linking together with running handball.
Cameron Ranck took on the opposition with some dashing runs down the ground while Fletcher Ward and James Browne were strong in the air, repelling many Tamworth attacks.
Jake Farthing scored an impressive goal as well in his first game.
In the U10s Madison Moar took a sensational mark up forward and converted this into Armidale’s first goal.
Ben Collins threaded a torpedo punt through the goals from the boundary while on the run and under pressure.
Henry Page, Harod Hartung, Madeline Murphy and Harrison Lawlor worked hard and created good opportunities for the team.
The U8s game saw Scott McGann, Emma Ranck, Clarrie Barker, Dan Lethridge and Jack Cregan marking well and finding plenty of ball.
Matthew Morris, Alexandra Brash, Noah Piper, Oscar McBean and Samuel Arandale Bioletti played really well in their first games.
Armidale Auskick coordinator Craig Collins said that all games were played in excellent spirit.
“There were many outstanding passages of play by both teams,” he said.
“With many players completely new to Aussie Rules and playing together for the first time, our teams will benefit enormously from this set of matches.
“The Tamworth teams had more height, depth and experience this time but our players improved dramatically as each game progressed.
“This has given many of them a further taste for the game and I expect we will take it right up to Tamworth with the return set of matches to be played down there on August 11.”
