Auskickers take on Tamworth at high noon
From the Armidale Express, 23/05/2007
On Saturday Armidale Auskick will be hosting a carnival of junior Australian football matches against Tamworth Auskick, starting at noon at Bellevue Oval, UNE.
Building on the success of the inaugural carnivals played last year in Armidale and Tamworth, organisers are expecting a large turn-out.
Craig Collins, Armidale Auskick coordinator, said he is expecintg about 100 players and their families.
“Our numbers have doubled on last year and Tamworth is also growing the game rapidly down there,” he said.
“Another positive is the large number of girls involved this year.
“These inter-clinic games are a real highlight with our players combining together as a team to represent New England.
“The matches are 12-a-side with four 10 minute quarters.
“We’ve been building up our skill levels for 5 weeks now, with a skills assessment session last Saturday.
“I think the kids are now looking forward to mixing it with Tamworth in more of a real game situation – but still in the good kind of spirit that parents expect at junior level.
“Another highlight this season will be taking a team of nine-year-olds down to the Sydney Cricket Ground to play at half time of the AFL clash between the Sydney Swans and Fremantle Dockers on July 8.”
