Season kicks off to a good start

From the Armidale Independent, 18/04/2007
Starting this Saturday, the 2007 season of Armidale Auskick will kick into gear.

The first session will be held at Bellevue Oval, UNE, from noon leading into the replay of the 2006 TAFL senior grand final between the New England Nomads and the Tamworth Swans, due to start at 2pm.

New registrations are still being taken and anyone interested in signing up should go along to Bellevue from 11.30am. According to Craig Collins, the local Auskick coordinator, there is unprecedented interest from kids going into the 2007 season.

“We had Australian football legend, Robert ‘Dipper’ Dipierdomenico, pay us a visit in February and more than 40 kids turned out,” Collins said.

“Dipper generated a lot of fresh interest and new signings and we are delighted to be welcoming so many new families to our program this year.

“The AFL, together with national sponsor NAB and local sponsor VHR, have combined to supply us with lots of new gear and equipment to cope with the explosive growth of Australian football in Armidale.”
