Auskick laces up the boots

From the Armidale Express, 18/04/2007
The 2007 Armidale Auskick season kicks off on Saturday.

The first session will be held at Bellevue Oval, UNE, from noon – leading into the replay of the 2006 Tamworth Australian Football League (TAFL) grand final between the New England Nomads and the Tamworth Swans at 2pm.

New registrations are still being taken and anyone interested in signing up should go along to Bellevue from 11.30am.

According to Craig Collins, the local Auskick co-ordinator, there is unprecedented interest from kids going into the 2007 season.

“We had Australian football legend, Robert ‘Dipper’ Dipierdomenico, pay us a visit in February and more than 40 kids turned out,” he said.

“Dipper generated a lot of fresh interest and new signings and we are delighted to be welcoming so many new families to our program this year.

“The AFL, together with national sponsor NAB and local sponsor VHR, have combined to supply us with lots of new gear and equipment to cope with the exploive growth of Australian football in Armidale.”

Auskick is a program designed to introduce five to 12 year old boys and girls to fun and skills of Australian rules football.

Registration costs $60 per child and includes an Auskick pack, Sherrin football, hat, water bottle, calendar, diary, parent’s pack, membership card, insurance and much more.

Junior Nomads’ footy jumpers are being supplied to all new players at no extra cost.
