Nomads through to Grand Final

From the Armidale Independent, 30/08/2006
In a closely contested game the New England Nomads narrowly defeated the Tamworth Swans 16.6 (102) to 15.9 (99).

A narrow margin of victory but enough to send the Nomads through to the Tamworth Australian Football League grand finals.

The majority of the Nomads goals came from Weston Whitby (9) and Glen Northway (6). Other noatble performances came from Jack Sartor, Tom Hunt and Richard Malone.

Depite accurate kicking and the well-developed ruck skills of the Nomads, the Swans responded every time to the challenges and it was tied at 37 apiece at half-time.

This continued right until the dying moments when Whitby kicked the winning goal, with the ball passing through the posts after the siren.

The Nomads have this week off as the Swans play the Saints in the preliminary finals. This will determine who faces the Nomads in the home ground Grand Final at Bellevue Oval on September 9.
