Nomads roast the Swans
From the Armidale Express Extra’s ‘On ya, sport’, 30/08/2006
The New England Nomads are still on a high following Saturday’s after the buzzer semi-final win over minor premiers, the Tamworth Swans
Weston Whitby didn’t break a sweat as he secured the game 102-99, belting the goal after the Swans defence caught him with a high tackle on full time.
The win was just desserts for the Nomads team who were the benchmark for the early part of the Tamworth Australian Football League season before dwindling, thanks in part to a player deficit caused by the university holidays.
Their last two games of the regular season, after regrouping and getting all the students back on board, were phenomenal as they trounced Narrabri and Gunnedah.
This win over the Swans stamps them as current competition frontrunners and the Bellevue Oval grand final will give them an added advantage over either the Swans or the Saints in the last stand for the 2006 premiership.
