Auskick polishes off successful season

By Craig Collins (Armidale Express, 23/08/2006)
Armidale Auskick concluded a successful second season on Saturday afternoon.

About 40 families attended the final Auskick session and presentation day at Bellevue Oval.

Every registered child received a trophy and DVD slideshow capturing season highlights together with other giveaways.

During the season, Armidale played home and away matches against Tamworth Auskick across three age-groups: five-seven years; eight-nine years and 10-12 years.

An Armidale eight-nine year old team also took the field at the Sydney Cricket Ground under lights, during the half-time of the Sydney Swans v St Kilda match played on June 10.

And to cap an exciting season, Sam Campbell, was selected last week by the Australian Football League from a pool of 2000 northern New South Wales participants to represent the region at half-time of the AFL grand final in Melbourne in September.

During the off-season, the New England Nomads will consider how best to further foster junior development, with strong demand for Aussie Rules competition in the 13-17 year old age bracket.

Such a move would cement a pathway for local Aussie Rules players aged anywhere from five to 45.
