Sam’s off to the AFL grand final
From the Armidale Express, 16/08/2006
Armidale Auskick participant Samuel Campbell has won the chance of a lifetime to play on the MCG at halftime of the 2006 AFL grand final.
Samuel will be accompanied by his father, Joe Campbell, and will travel to Melbourne to participate in grand final activities from Thursday of grand final week.
Unfortunately for Sam his favourite Aussie Rules team, Carlton, won’t be featuring in the final as they languish at the bottom of the table.
“We used to live in Melbourne but we never got a grand final while we were down there,” Joe said.
“We’ve been up here about a year now so it’ll be good to go back and catch up with some old friends and go to the grand final as well.”
Auskick Ambassador Robert ‘Dipper’ DiPierdomenico said being in Melbourne for the biggest week in Australia’s sporting calendar was the opportunity of a lifetime.
“If you love your football, the grand final is the place to be,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to meeting 94 children from all over Australia and I know from experience the grand final is the ultimate experience.”
Winners will also join Dipper in the grand final parade plus they will visit AFL World and participate in the grand final pre-match entertainment.
A select number of the children involved in this experience will also win the opportunity to present a Premiership Medal to one of the players from the winning team.
Sam was selected from over 2000 Auskick players in Northern NSW to go to the grand final.
