Nomads look for title
From the Armidale Express Extra’s “On ya, sport”, 16/08/2006
New England needed to win Saturday’s TAFL fixture against Bulldogs.
They went one better – humiliating Gunnedah by 155 points to 20.
The resounding thumping sky-rocketed the Nomads up into second position on the ladder, giving them the opportunity to fight the Swans for a home ground grand final in 10 days time.
Despite going down to the Tamworth teams in the weeks leading into the finals the Nomads are the form team at the moment.
In their last two games they’ve accumulated 276 points and let through just 31.
Some critics might suggest that the whitewashes were against the league cellar-dwellers Narrabri and Gunnedah, but that argument can’t speak as much as the numbers.
No other team has been able to win a match so comprehensively this year.

Some might point out that the Swans 30.15 (195) to 5.7 (37) of the Cats was more comprehensive in terms of total (195 v 155) and winning margin (158 v 135).
They might also point out that the opposition was stronger too since the Cats finished well ahead of Narrabri and Gunnedah on the ladder.
Still a fine result though.
