Season launch 2012

The season launch will take place next Friday (20/4/2012) at the Wicklow Hotel. The evening starts at 7pm and the cost is $15 to cover a burger meal.

All members and supporters welcome. We will be joined by some former UNE ANFC players, as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of footy in Armidale, and also our very special guest and club patron the Vice Chancellor of UNE Professor Jim Barber.

Genesis – The First Game in Armidale

Celebrating 50 years of AFL at UNE logoRob Cason, UNEANFC founder, recalls the first-ever official game at the University of New England in 1962 when Tooheys Flag Ale was a popular beer amongst the players.

I started at UNE in 1961 when there was a rumor that the Aussie Rules guys had played a game amongst themselves the previous year.

In the beginning the only means of getting a kick was to do some drop kicks after the evenings rugby training or do a few short passes at the rear of the spectators standing on the side lines watching Saturday’s rugby. More »

Following the unfortunate withdrawal of Narrabri Eagles from the 2012 Essential Energy TAFL competition, a revised six-team draw has been published. The fixtures page has now been updated to reflect this.

Nomads kick off 2012 with Practice Match

Saturday 24th marked the day of the Nomads return to the park with a practice match against the Sawtell Saints. With Sawtell winning 5 of the last 7 premierships in the North Coast competition, it was a great chance for the Nomads to benchmark themselves against a higher league team. More »
