Nomads register a second win in downtown Tamworth

The New England Nomads have registered a second win for the season after a close contest with the vastly improving Tamworth Swans. Poor kicking did not help the Nomads’ cause but David ‘Modra’ Richards had the radar working with 6 majors. The Nomads talls Conor Nest and Andy Gray led the way ably assisted by Dr Quaalude (Angus Quail), Luke Rambo Raymond and youngster Morgan Dunn. Final scores were Nomads 12.17-89 to the Swans 11.11-77.

The game was held down in Tamworth at Tamworth No.1 on a surprisingly green and soft oval. The Nomads were shocked in the opening minutes of the game by the Swans’ quick movement and their handball and their general use of the ball. Angus Quail was causing lots of trouble for the Swans up forward but was a little erratic in his kicking. However, the Nomads re-gathered their composure and by the end of the first quarter scores were level at 3.4-22.

The second quarter saw the Swans continuing to dominate the ground-play and seemed to have more numbers at the ball at every contest. Their effort meant that the Nomads fell behind. The scores at half time had the Swans leading 7.8.50 to 6.9.45.

In the third quarter the Nomads’ tall-timber Conor Nest and Andy Gray dominating in the air and Luke Raymond cleaning up anything they didn’t mark. And if the Nomads had kicked straighter By three quarter time the scores looked better for the Nomads, with the Nomads leading 9.16-70 to 9.9.63.

The final quarter saw the the Nomads run out winners by 12 points but they should have won by a greater margin save for the kicking!
